Hi, I’m Liam, I’m from Norfolk, and I have always suffered from a severe lack of confidence. My teachers did not help me enough with this at school, and a result I did very badly and ended up dropping out.
My life started slipping away, at least until I found out about the Youth Contract, a mentoring and advisory project. My girlfriend told me about it and I thought it was something which would help me get my life back on track.
I found out from further research that the project provides support to 16 and 17 year olds in the East of England area who are NEET – that is that they are Not in Education, Employment or Training. I was encouraged by TCHC’s experience of helping these young people find a job, apprenticeship place or suitable training course.
I still remember the day I met Zera Bacon, a Personal Youth Adviser at TCHC, and the day my life changed. We discussed my confidence issues and what was preventing me from moving forward with my life. She told me more about the programme and helped me set goals for the future. I realised that my situation was not completely hopeless and could be improved.
I received some really useful support to help me build my confidence. Zera helped me to realise my dreams. I discovered that anything was possible! I realised that having qualifications was essential and this helped me to set goals for the future and send me on my way.
With Zera’s support and encouragement I managed to get on a YMCA Study Programme. I would not have been able to do this without Zera.
I thought I couldn’t do it and would give up, but months later I am still studying and no longer NEET!
Thank you Zera, thank you TCHC, for all that you have done for me.
